Crankshaft Main Bearing Seal: Service and Repair

1.
Remove engine from vehicle as described under ``Engine, Replace.''
2.
On vehicles equipped with automatic transaxle, remove flywheel dust cover and flex plate to torque converter bolts.
3.
Remove bellhousing bolts and separate engine from transaxle assembly.
4.
On vehicles equipped with automatic transaxle, remove flex plate.
5.
On vehicles equipped with manual transaxle, remove pressure plate, clutch disc and flywheel.
6.
Using a suitable tool, remove rear main bearing oil seal.
7.
Reverse procedure to install. During installation of seal, position seal over seal pilot tool No. J-33004 or equivalent, Fig. 13. Using clean engine
oil, lubricate new rear oil seal and position onto crankshaft by turning starter bolts on tool No. J-33004 in rotational sequence until rear oil seal
bottoms in engine block.
