Shifter Shaft Washer Selection
When shift cables are properly adjusted, but improper first and second gear shifts are encountered, it may be necessary to check the shifter shaft
selective thrust washer. This washer helps position the shifter shaft for proper shifter operation. Proceed as follows to determine the correct selective
thrust washer thickness:
1.
Remove reverse inhibitor fitting, spring and washer from end housing, then position shifter shaft into second gear.
2.
Measure distance from end of housing to shifter shaft shoulder, dimension A, Fig. 6.
3.
Apply a load of 9 to 13 lbs. to opposite end of shifter shaft, then measure distance from end of housing to shifter shaft shoulder, dimension B, Fig.
6.
4.
Subtract measurement obtained in step 2 from measurement obtained in step 3, which will equal the thickness of the selective thrust washer to be
installed, dimension C, Fig. 6. When selecting a thrust washer, refer to Fig. 7.
