Intake Air Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation
Intake Air Temperature Sensor
PURPOSE
The Intake Air Temperature (IAT) sensor is a thermistor used by the PCM to adjust fuel delivery and spark timing according to incoming air density.
LOCATION
Intake Manifold
OPERATION
The PCM supplies a 5.0 volt signal to the IAT sensor through a resistor and measures the voltage. By measuring the voltage, the PCM can determine
IAT. Low intake air temperature produces a high resistance, while high intake air temperature produces a low resistance.
