Engine Front Cover: Description and Operation

Disassembled Upper Engine

The cast-aluminum timing chain housing, (47) is attached to the block and camshaft carriers. The housing includes the idler sprocket and bearing which
drives the water pump.

Engine Front Cover

The stamped-steel front cover houses the front crankshaft seal and the camshaft mass damper, used to reduce camshaft drive noise.
