PREPARE PROTECTIVE SHIELDS:

1.

Place each template on the clear protective film (3M P/N 8598 High Performance Film or equivalent) with respect to the desired side of the
vehicle.

2.

Trace around the templates, then, cut out shields using a sharp blade or scissors.

CLEAN SURFACES (FIGURE 1)

1.

Indicated areas of lower bodyside moldings. Use a lint-free cloth soaked in a solution of mild liquid detergent and water.

2.

Rinse with clear water. Wipe dry with lint-free cloth.

3.

Indicated areas with a lint-free cloth moistened with isopropyl alcohol. Let dry.

APPLY SHIELDS:

1.

Peel the protective backing from the film.

2.

Apply (spray or wipe with a lint-free cloth) a solution of 25 percent isopropyl alcohol and 75 percent water to affected area.

NOTICE:
3M recommends using alcohol and water. If an equivalent film is used, check manufacturer's directions.

3.

Wipe or spray the affected area again if it has dried, as the solution provides lubricity for the patch to allow movement before final placement.
 Observing locating directions on the template, apply each shield to it's respective area. (Figure 1)

4.

Using your fingers or a small decal applicator (squeegee), work out bubbles and the alcohol/water solution.

Causes for chipped paint are often difficult to diagnose.  The following information is intended as a guide in determining whether the condition is due to
a product condition or owner responsibility.

The paint used on all GM cars is designed to withstand certain impact forces without chipping. However, the color coat may chip off some body panels
depending upon a number of factors and circumstances, including a vehicle's design features (hood, slope angle, size of front end panel, rocker panel turn
under), age, the severity of impact, and severe owner usage. Chipping paint is caused by (among other things) the impact of salt, stones or hard objects.
Conditions of chipping paint should be carefully evaluated to determine if the cause is related to a paint condition or severe usage by owner.  When
determining the cause, the following guidelines should be used as reference.

INSPECTION GUIDELINES

1.

Prior to inspection the body exterior should be clean and free of dirt.

2.

Carefully inspect all horizontal and vertical body panels for chips.

3.

Carefully inspect windshield glass, side glass, side view mirrors, grille and exterior moldings for chips and dents.

4.

Tape test chipped area:

Apply a piece of masking tape approximately ten (10) inches long, over the chipped area.  Remove the tape with one quick, even pulling
motion, 90 degrees to body panel.

IMPORTANT:

Do not use "duct" type tape with aggressive adhesive.
