Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
This engine is equipped with two PCM controlled electric cooling fans. The lefthand fan, No. 1, begins operation when engine coolant temperature is
above 223°F or A/C refrigerant pressure is greater than 240 psi. If diagnostic trouble codes (DTC PO117 or PO118) are set then the cooling fan will
be in operation. The righthand fan, No. 2, is used for heavy duty cooling with A/C. If engine coolant temperature is above 235°F or A/C is requested
and vehicle speed is less than 40 MPH then the fan will operate. The righthand fan will also operate if A/C pressure is greater than 240 psi. Power for
both fans is supplied by a 60 amp maxifuse to the fan relays. Current flows to ground through the PCM energizing the fan relays
