Harmonic Balancer - Crankshaft Pulley: Service and Repair

Crankshaft Pulley/Balancer

SPECIAL TOOL REQUIRED (or equivalent)

J-37096, Flywheel holding tool.

^

J-24420-B, Balancer remover.

^

J-29113, Balancer installer.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Serpentine drive belt.
2. Raise vehicle and suitably support.
3. Right front tire and wheel assembly.
4. Right engine splash shield and the flywheel inspection cover.
5. Crankshaft balancer bolt using J-37096.
6. Crankshaft pulley bolts and pulley.
7. Heater pipe retaining screws at coolant recovery tank bracket.
8. With J-24420-B installed on balancer, turn puller screw and remove balancer.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. Coat front cover oil seal contact area (on balancer) with engine oil.
2. Apply sealant (GM P/N 12345739, or equivalent) to the keyway of balancer before installing.
3. Place balancer in position over key on crankshaft.
4. Push balancer onto crankshaft.
5. J-29113 onto crankshaft.
6. Pull balancer into position and remove J-29113.
7. Heater pipe retaining screws at coolant recovery tank bracket.
8. Crankshaft pulley and bolts and torque to 60 Nm (44 lb ft).
9. Crankshaft balancer bolt and using J-37096, torque to 107 Nm (79 lb ft).

10. Flywheel inspection cover and the right engine splash shield.
11. Right front tire and wheel assembly.
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Serpentine drive belt.
