Audible Warning Device: Description and Operation

The Chevy Chime Module generates audible warnings for three conditions: Headlamps "ON" Warning, Ignition Key Warning, and Fasten Belts
Warning. Buick, Olds and Pontiac add a fourth warning for Turn Signals "ON." The Headlamps "ON" Warning and Turn Signal Warning are pulsed
approximately once every one half second, sounding the quickest. The Ignition Key Warning is pulsed once every second. The Fasten Belts Warning is
a continuous tone.

Headlamps "ON" Warning
When the Headlamp Switch is in "PARK" or "HEAD," voltage is applied to the Lamps "ON" Input of the Chime Module. When the Ignition
Switch is turned out of the "RUN" position, voltage is removed from the Ignition Switch Input of the Chime Module. When voltage is present at
the Lamps "ON" Input and no voltage applied to the Ignition Switch Input, the Chime Module will sound the Lamps "ON" Warning.

Ignition Key Warning
The Chime Module applies voltage at all times to the Ignition Key Warming Switch. When the Ignition Key is placed into the Ignition Switch, the
Ignition Key Warning Switch is closed. When the LH front door is open, the LH Front Mini Wedge Switch (Chevy) or Left Front Door Jamb
Switch (B,O,P) closes the circuit to ground. The Chime Module senses a voltage drop at the Ignition Key Input and will sound the Ignition Key
Warning.

Fasten Belts Warning
The Chime Module applies voltage to the Seat Belt Switch at all times. The Chime Module senses a voltage drop at the Seat Belt Input through the
closed contacts of the Seat Belt Switch when the driver's seat belt is unlatched. When the driver's seat belt is latched, the Seat Belt Switch is
opened and the Chime Module senses voltage at the Seat Belt Input. When the Ignition Switch is turned to "RUN," voltage is applied to the Chime
Module Ignition Switch Input. When voltage is present at the Ignition Switch Input and 0 volt at the Seat Belt Input, the Chime Module will sound
the Fasten Belts Warning for 4 to 8 seconds. If voltage is present at the Ignition Switch Input and the Seat Belt Input, the Chime Module will
disable the Fasten Belts Warning.

Turn Signal Warning Chime
When a turn signal is operated, voltage is alternately applied and removed to Chime Module Connector C2, terminal "A". The module begins to
monitor vehicle distance at connector C2, terminal "B". If the Turn Signal is still flashing after the vehicle has traveled 0.8 kilometers (0.5 miles),
the Turn Signal Warning chime will sound.
