REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Negative battery cable.
2. Partially drain radiator. (Coolant hose at upper manifold assembly will be removed later in sequence.)
3. Throttle and cruise control cables from throttle lever cam.
4. Air cleaner assembly and air duct
5. Power brake and crankcase ventilation valve vacuum hoses at upper manifold.
6. Electrical connectors from Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, Throttle Position (TP) sensor, and EGR valve.
7. Retaining bolt, and EGR tube from adapter (beneath EGR valve).

NOTICE:  To prevent damage to EGR tube and/or misalignment of mounting bracket, Do Not attempt to bend this tube alter removing retaining
bolt.

8. Bolt retaining coolant tube to throttle cable bracket.
9. Fuel pipe clip (retainer) bolt and clip.

10. Loosen compression clamp on upper manifold coolant inlet hose, slide clamp down on hose past the fitting.
11. Crankcase vent hose from front camshaft cover.
12. Vacuum hoses from vacuum module.
13. Engine identification cover attaching bolts and cover.
14. Spark plug wires from rear cylinders.
15. Upper manifold assembly, attaching bolts and rear mounting nuts.

Disconnect inlet coolant hose.

-

Position canister purge solenoid bracket off to the side.

16. Coolant O-ring and upper manifold assembly gasket and discard.

DISASSEMBLE

Upper manifold assembly includes the following component parts:

-

Throttle Position (TP) sensor.

-

Idle Air Control (IAC) valve.

The following components are mounted on the upper manifold assembly but are not part of the replacement manifold assembly. These components
have to be removed and transferred to the new assembly.

1. EGR valve attaching bolts, EGR valve, and EGR valve-adapter.
2. Vacuum module attaching bolts and vacuum module.
3. Throttle cable bracket attaching bolts, and throttle cable bracket.
4. Inlet coolant hose connection nipple.
5. Power brake booster vacuum pipe fitting.

CLEAN

The upper manifold assembly and its components should not be cleaned or soaked in an immersion-type cleaner.

CAUTION:
-

Do Not use a cleaner that contains methyl ethyl ketone, an extremely strong solvent, and not necessary for the type of cleaning outlined below.
Carburetor cleaner may be used to remove deposits. Refer to package instructions on use of product.

The upper manifold assembly contains the TP sensor, Idle Air Control (IAC) valve, and internal throttle shaft sealed ball bearings. These
components should NOT be subjected to strong solvent or cleaner bath. A chemical reaction will cause the parts containing rubber to swell,
harden or distort, and the cleaner will also wash away the ball bearing grease or weaken its lubrication properties.

Use care in cleaning old gasket material from machined aluminum surfaces as sharp tools may damage sealing surfaces.

The throttle bore and valve deposits may be cleaned on vehicle, using carburetor cleaner and a shop towel. Refer to package instructions on use of
product.

ASSEMBLE

Install upper manifold transferred components on new replacement upper manifold assembly.

1. EGR valve.
2. New EGR valve-to-adapter gasket.
3. EGR valve-adapter.
4. New EGR valve-to-manifold gasket.
5. EGR valve attaching bolts.

Tighten
Valve attaching bolts to 25.0 Nm (18 lb. ft.).
