Interior - Painted Trim Worn Off of Steering Wheel

Painted Finish Wearing Off Steering Wheel Spokes and/or Steering Wheel Shroud (Replace Spokes and/or Shroud)

Models:
2004-2006 Pontiac Grand Prix

Supercede:

This bulletin is being revised to update the models years, repair procedure, parts and warranty information. Please discard Corporate Bulletin Number
04-02-35-002A (Section 02 - Steering).

Condition 1

Some customers may comment that the paint finish is wearing or coming off the steering wheel spokes and/or the steering wheel shroud.

Condition 2

Some customers may comment that the paint finish is peeling or flaking off the steering wheel shroud (rear cover).

Correction 1

Replace the steering wheel spoke covers following this procedure:

1.

Remove the air bag module. Refer to Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Replacement in SI.

2.

Remove the two screws from the steering wheel spoke cover.

3.

Remove the spoke cover and disconnect the electrical connectors. If equipped, remove the steering wheel controls.

4.

Remove the control from the spoke cover by releasing the retaining tab with a small screw driver.

5.

Install the controller into the spoke cover.

6.

If equipped, install the steering wheel controls.

7.

Reconnect the electrical connector and install the spoke cover to the wheel.

8.

Install the screws.

Tighten

Tighten the screws to 3.5 N.m (31 lb in).
