SUBJECT:
RADIO SPEAKER BUZZ AT LOW VOLUME
(CORRECT WIRING)
MODEL:
1994 PONTIAC GRAND PRIX
CONDITION:
The customer may comment on a radio buzz or hum, usually heard at idle, at low volume setting, which varies with engine speed. One or more speakers
may be affected. Normal driving noises usually are louder than the noise.
CAUSE:
The speaker wires may be routed too close to the ignition feed wires in the main I/P harness. This was corrected in production about January 1, 1994.
CORRECTION:
Determine which speakers are affected by listening to each individual speaker, using the balance and fade controls. The wiring for the affected speakers
should be re-routed, following the instructions in wiring kit, P/N 12166020.
The wiring kit contains wiring to correct two speakers. If more than two speakers are affected, two kits will have to be ordered.
After installing the new speaker wires, listen to the radio to insure that the muting eliminates the noise. Some adjusting of the wire's position may be
needed to completely eliminate the noise. When the noise is gone, then tape the wires in place permanently.
