Clutch Slave Cylinder: Service and Repair

REMOVAL

Whenever powertrain components are lowered for any reason, the clutch actuator must be removed from the transaxle case. Failure to remove actuator
may result in hydraulic system damage.

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.

2. Remove air cleaner assembly and sound insulator, then disconnect master cylinder pushrod from clutch pedal.

3. Disconnect hydraulic system at quick connect fitting using tool No. J-36221 or equivalent.

4. Remove two bolts holding canister bracket to transaxle.

5. Remove two actuator attaching nuts, then the actuator from transaxle housing.

INSTALLATION

1. Inspect actuator push rod for lever bushing and replace if missing.

2. Install actuator on transaxle housing studs with push rod centered in pocket of internal lever in housing. An axial load on push rod may be required to
compress actuator piston spring.

3. Install actuator attaching nuts, torquing evenly to 18 ft. lbs.

4. Install new bushing in master cylinder push rod. Lubricate bushing prior to installation.

5. Connect master cylinder push rod to clutch pedal, with bushing tangs snapped into pedal pin groove.

6. Press clutch pedal down several times, ensuring pedal effort is normal and firm.

7. On models equipped with cruise control, adjust cruise control clutch switch.

8. Install sound insulator, then connect battery ground cable.
