Front Crankshaft Seal: Service and Repair

ENGINE FRONT COVER OIL SEAL

TOOL REQUIRED

J 34995 Front Cover Oil Seal Installer

REMOVAL

1. Remove the drive belt. 
2. Raise the vehicle. Support the vehicle suitably. 

3. Remove the right engine splash shield.
4. Remove the crankshaft balancer. 
5. Pry out the front cover oil seal with a large screwdriver. Refer to instructions supplied with replacement part.
6. Inspect the crankshaft and the front cover for scratches.

INSTALLATION 

1. Lubricate the seal with engine oil in order to make installation easier.
2. Install the seal with the Front Cover Oil Seal Installer. Ensure that the lip faces the engine.
3. Install the crankshaft balancer. 
4. Install the right engine splash shield. 
5. Lower the vehicle.
6. Install the accessory drive belt. 
7. Inspect for leaks.
