The inflator module can be deployed inside or outside of the vehicle. The method used depends upon the final disposition of the vehicle. Review the
Deployment procedures in order to determine which will work best in a given situation.
Steering Wheel Module Replacement
INFLATABLE RESTRAINT STEERING WHEEL MODULE REPLACEMENT
TOOLS REQUIRED
EL-46844 Inflatable Restraint Steering Wheel Module Removal Tool
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to SIR Disabling and Enabling Zone 3.
CAUTION: Refer to SIR Caution in Service Precautions.
2. Place the front wheels in the straight ahead position.
3. Rotate the steering wheel 90 degree to expose 2 of the 4 access holes in the rear of the steering wheel hub.
4. Use EL-46844 to relieve the tension of the 2 spring loaded retaining clips. When tension is released the steering wheel module will move slightly
away from the steering wheel.
5. Rotate the steering wheel 180 degree to expose the other 2 access holes in the rear of the steering wheel hub.
6. Use EL-46844 to relieve the tension of the 2 spring loaded retaining clips. When tension is released the steering wheel module will move slightly
away from the sterling wheel.
