Radiator Cooling Fan Motor: Description and Operation
DESCRIPTION
The electric cooling fan will operate when the engine coolant temperature is above 228°F and vehicle speed below 70 mph, A/C is requested or
diagnostic trouble codes (DTC 14 or 15) have been set. A DTC 14 condition indicates a failed engine coolant temperature sensor, when this occurs the
fan will receive an On command from the PCM and the cooling fan will run. On vehicle equipped with air conditioning the fan will run when engine
cooling temperature exceeds 228°F and A/C refrigerant pressure exceeds 200 psi. When engine coolant temperature drops below 211°F, then the PCM
will command fan Off.
