A/C - Temperature Control Lever Moves Without Input

SUBJECT:
TEMPERATURE CONTROL LEVER MOVES FROM SET POSITION WITHOUT OPERATOR INPUT - HIGH BLOWER ONLY 
(REPOSITION TEMPERATURE DOOR CABLE)

MODEL:
1994 PONTIAC SUNBIRD

CONDITION:

Some owners may comment on the temperature lever moving from the set position without operator input while on high blower only.

CAUSE:

Resistance in the cable may not be great enough to overcome the air force developed in the high blower position.

CORRECTION:

Reroute temperature door cable near the inboard I/P tie bar and fasten with plastic tie strap.

NOTE:

Performing this procedure will Increase effort needed to operate the temperature control lever.

Service Procedure:

1.

Remove right hand sound insulator.

2.

Use plastic tie strap to pull cable toward I/P tie bar.

3.

Within A/C mode with high blower on, tighten tie strap gradually until there is enough resistance in the cable to eliminate the lever movement
from the air force.

4.

Replace right hand sound insulator.
