Wheel Bearing: Service and Repair
Rear Suspension

REAR HUB AND/OR BEARINGS

1.

Raise and support rear of vehicle.

2.

Remove wheel and tire assembly.

3.

Remove brake drum setscrew and the drum. If necessary, loosen parking brake cable and press parking brake lever in with a screwdriver.

4.

Remove dust cap from hub, then the spindle nut cotter pin and nut.

5.

Remove wheel hub and lockwasher.

6.

Remove seal from wheel hub using a suitable screwdriver.

7.

Remove inner tapered roller bearing from hub.

8.

Drive inner and outer bearing outer races out of wheel hub using a suitable drift.

9.

Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:

a. Press bearing outer races into hub using tools J-6791 and J-8092 or equivalents.
b. Pack wheel bearings, seal lip and wheel hub with suitable wheel bearing grease.
c. Following completion of installation, adjust wheel bearings and parking brake as needed.
