Front Steering Knuckle: Service and Repair
STEERING KNUCKLE REPLACEMENT
Removal Procedure
1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to Vehicle Lifting.
2. Remove the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
3. Remove the tie rod from the steering knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement-Outer.
4. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, disconnect the ABS electrical connector.
5. Remove the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement-Front.
6. Remove the bolts (3) and nuts (6) that attach the steering knuckle (4) to the strut (2).
7. Remove the lower ball joint from the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Ball plaint Replacement.
8. Remove the steering knuckle (4) from the vehicle.
Installation Procedure
1. Install the steering knuckle (4) to the vehicle.
2. Install the lower ball joint to the steering knuckle. Refer to Lower Ball Joint Replacement.
Notice Refer to Fastener Notice in Service Precautions.
3. Install the bolts (3) and the nuts (6) attaching the steering knuckle (4) to the strut (2).

Tighten the nuts (6) to 180 Nm (133 ft. lbs.).
4. Install the hub and bearing assembly. Refer to Wheel Bearing/Hub Replacement-Front.
5. If the vehicle is equipped with ABS, connect the ABS electrical connector.
6. Install the tie rod to the steering knuckle. Refer to Tie Rod End Replacement-Outer.
7. Install the tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation.
8. Inspect the front wheel alignment. Refer to Measuring Wheel Alignment.
