Fuel Return Line: Service and Repair
Chassis to Fuel Sender Pipes / Hoses

Fuel Pipe Replacement

TOOLS REQUIRED

J 37088-A Or equivalent 

WARNING:

-

To Reduce the Risk of Fire and Personal Injury: Do Not attempt to repair sections of nylon fuel pipes. If damaged, replace.

If nylon fuel feed or return pipes become kinked, and cannot be straightened, they must be replaced.

    
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Perform Fuel Pressure Release Procedure.
2. Quick-connect fittings in engine compartment.
3. Cap fuel feed and return pipes.
4. Raise vehicle.
5. Quick-connect fittings near fuel filter.
6. Cap fuel sender return pipe and in-line fuel filter outlet as needed to stop fuel leakage.
7. Fuel feed and return pipe attaching hardware and fuel feed and return pipes.

Note position of fuel pipes and hardware for installation.

INSTALL OR CONNECT

1. New fuel feed and return pipes and hardware as noted during removal.
2. Remove caps from in-line fuel filter outlet and fuel sender return pipe.
3. New plastic connector retainers on filter outlet pipe and on fuel sender return pipe.
4. Quick-connect fittings.
5. Tighten fuel filler cap.
6. Negative battery cable.

INSPECT

Turn ignition switch to "ON," position for two seconds, then turn to "OFF" for ten seconds. Again turn to "ON" position, and check for fuel leaks.
