3. Remove inner splash shield, then separate tie rod from steering knuckle.
4. Remove ball joint from steering knuckle.
5. Remove drive axle assembly.
6. Remove snap ring from stub axle shaft. Discard snap ring.
7. Pull lightly on shaft and rotate it until output shaft snap ring at differential seats in taper on differential side gear.
8. Remove stub shaft from transaxle using slide hammer tool No. J-6125 and shaft removal tool No. J-38868 or equivalents, Fig. 17 .
9. Remove sleeve from stub shaft using puller tool No. J-41227 or equivalent, Fig. 18.
10. Remove right hand axle seal from transaxle using seal removal tool No. J-23129 and slide hammer tool No. J-6125 or equivalents.
11. Remove transaxle side cover assembly.
12. Remove sleeve from output shaft using puller tool No. J-41227 or equivalent, Fig. 18.
13. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Lubricate seal lip with a light wipe of transaxle fluid and install new seal using seal tool No. J-41102 or equivalent.
b. Install shaft sleeves with sleeve installer tool No. 41228 or equivalent.
c. Install two new snap rings on stub shaft.
d. Carefully guide axle shaft past lip seal.
CAUTION: To prevent damage to seal, do not allow shaft splines to contact any portion of the seal lip surface.
