    Refer to Fig. 30 for steering column component identification. All components of the steering column are sensitive to damage and must be handled
carefully.
Disassembly

1.

Remove mounting brackets and unsnap switch connector from column.

2.

If not already removed, remove nut retainer, nut and steering wheel. Do not strike end of steering shaft in an attempt to remove steering
wheel.

3.

Using a screwdriver, pry up on shaft lock cover slots and remove cover.

4.

Remove ring and lock plate. Be careful to prevent steering shaft from sliding out bottom of column. Slide upper spring, turn signal canceling cam
and washer off upper end of steering shaft.

5.

Rotate turn signal lever/windshield wiper switch assembly clockwise to stop (OFF position) and pull straight out to disengage. Push hazard
warning knob in and unscrew and remove knob. Remove two screws, pivot arm and spacer.

6.

Remove turn signal switch mounting screws and remove switch, then place lock cylinder in RUN position. Be careful to avoid dropping wedge
spring into column.

7.

Remove buzzer switch and spring assembly by inserting hooked end of bent wire into exposed loop of wedge spring. Pull straight back on wire to
remove both spring and switch. Remove lock retaining screw and the lock cylinder set from housing.

8.

Pull actuator rod up until it stops to position ignition switch in Off-Unlocked position, then remove upper retaining screw to release dimmer switch
and actuator. Multi-function switch pivot and switch assembly can now be removed.

9.

Remove shroud attaching screws, then disconnect actuator rod from rack and remove shroud from housing.

10.

Remove release lever and spring, rack and bolt and preload spring.

11.

If necessary, remove upper bearing and retainer by driving out with a suitable socket.

12.

Remove sector through lock cylinder hole and pull steering shaft through bottom of column.

13.

If necessary, remove lower bushing from steering column jacket.
