Keyless Entry Transmitter: Customer Interest
RKE System - Intermittently Inoperative
File In Section: 9 - Accessories
Bulletin No.: 53-90-09
Date: December, 1995
Subject:
RKE System Inoperative (Replace Transmitter)
Models:
1995 Chevrolet Lumina Minivan
1995 Oldsmobile Silhouette
1995 Pontiac Trans Sport with Remote Keyless Entry (RPO AUO)
Condition
Some owners may comment that the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system is inoperative intermittently. The system will not respond to the transmitter
(key fob).
The range of the transmitter from the left front area (driver's side, in front of the hood) can be considerably less than from other areas of the vehicle. The
driver may comment that this is a "dead area". This is a normal condition, since the signal must travel through the engine before reaching the transmitter,
shortening the range.
Cause
Insufficient electrical contact with the battery inside the transmitter. The part was revised at the start of the 1996 model year.
Correction
Replace the transmitter. See below for new part numbers.
Follow the instructions in the Service Manual to program the new transmitter.
Parts Information
Important:
A small number of early 1995 vehicles, and all 1994 vehicles, contain a Prince system instead of a Lectron system. When ordering either a
transmitter or receiver for any 1995 U van, refer to the parts book for the proper system. The parts are not interchangeable. The name of the system is
printed on the transmitter.
This bulletin applies only to 1995 vehicles with the Lectron system.
