Frame Insulator Noise (Replace Insulators, Retainers and Bolts)
Models:
1994-95 Chevrolet Lumina Minivan
1994-95 Oldsmobile Silhouette
1994-95 Pontiac Trans Sport
CONDITION
Some vehicles may exhibit a popping type noise audible during moderate braking or acceleration. Typically this noise can be detected as coming from
one or both sides of the vehicle in the front of dash/floor pan area and is similar to a "crunching" noise caused by loose frame mounting bolts which are
to be torqued to 140 Nm (103 lb.ft.).
CAUSE
Rear frame mounts not correctly seated to frame which can result in a popping noise during fore-aft loading.
CORRECTION
Determine suspect mount location(s) and using a feeler gage, check for any gap between the lower metal surface of the frame and the upper metal surface
of the lower insulator. At mount location(s) where a gap is detected, replace components indicated below following Service Manual procedure in Section
10-3, Frame, and those in illustration.
