Liftgate - Loss of Locking Feature/Non-Power Locks

SUBJECT:
LIFTGATE - LOSS OF LOCKING FEATURE/NON-POWER LOCKS (INSTALL POWER DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR)

MODELS:
1992-94 CHEVROLET LUMINA MINIVAN 
1992-94 OLDSMOBILE SILHOUETTE 
1992-94 PONTIAC TRANS SPORT

CONDITION:

Some customers may comment that the liftgate does not lock.

CAUSE:

The lock cylinder lock out pin may be loose or missing (See Illustration).

CORRECTION:

Install power door lock actuator, P/N 10242895, to correct locking feature following procedure below.

1.

Remove trim panel.

2.

Remove lock plate assembly.

3.

Remove lock cylinder retaining clip and discard clip.

4.

Install power door lock actuator P/N 10242895.

5.

Cut the electrical connector and wire from the actuator and discard.

6.

Insure that the actuator's wire retaining clip does not overlap the key cylinders return spring.

7.

Cycle the key cylinder in the lock direction (counterclockwise) to insure the actuator's pin is engaged.

8.

Reinstall lock plate and trim panel.
