Park Brake Cable Replacement - Left Rear

Removal Procedure

1. Complete the following steps in order to remove the park brake cable from the left rear brake:

If the vehicle has rear drum brakes, remove the shoes and the hardware. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement (FWD) or Brake Shoe
Replacement (AWD) in Drum Brakes. See: Drum Brake System/Brake Shoe/Service and Repair

If the vehicle has rear disc brakes, remove the park brake shoes and the hardware. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement. See: Parking

2. Remove the bolt and the park brake cable from the left rear backing plate.
3. If the vehicle has front-wheel drive, complete the following steps:

3.1. Remove the catalytic convener. Refer to Catalytic Convener Replacement (AWD) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (2WD) in Engine

Exhaust.

3.2. Remove the 3 nuts and the front floor forward heat shield.
3.3. Remove the 2 nuts and the front floor center heat shield.
3.4. Remove the 5 bolts and the fuel tank shield.
3.5. If the vehicle has ABS, separate the ABS harness from the left rear clamp.

4. Remove the 4 bolts from the 4 clamps.
5. Remove the left rear park brake cable (7) from the equalizer (8).

Installation Procedure

1. Install the left rear park brake cable (7) to the equalizer (8).

Notice:  Refer to Fastener Notice in Cautions and Notices.

2. Install the 4 bolts in order to retain the 4 clamps.

Tighten
Tighten the bolts to 5.4 N.m (47.79 lb in).

3. If the vehicle has front-wheel drive, complete the following steps:

3.1. If the vehicle has ABS, install the ABS harness to the left rear clamp.
3.2. Install the fuel tank shield and the 5 bolts.
3.3. Install the front floor center heat shield and the 2 nuts.
3.4. Install the front floor forward heat shield and the 3 nuts.

Tighten
Tighten the nuts and the bolts to 5.5 N.m (48.68 lb in).

3.5. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to Catalytic Converter Replacement (AWD) or Catalytic Converter Replacement (2WD) in Engine

Exhaust.

4. Install the park brake cable and the bolt to the left rear backing plate.

Tighten
Tighten the bolt to 7.8 N.m (69.04 lb in).

5. Complete the following steps in order to install the park brake cable to the left rear brake:

If the vehicle has rear drum brakes, install the shoes and the hardware. Refer to Brake Shoe Replacement (FWD) or Brake Shoe
Replacement (AWD) in Drum Brakes.

If the vehicle has rear disc brakes, install the park brake shoes and the hardware. Refer to Park Brake Shoe Replacement.
