Eliminating Noise Symptoms: Reworking Spoiler Drive

Symptom
Squeaking noises from around the spoiler drive when extending and/or retracting the rear spoiler.
Causes and remedial action
Cause
Squeaking noises can occur when extending and/or retracting the rear spoiler as a result of dust or if the upper part of the spoiler is too tight.
Remedial action
Clean the spoiler guides, seal bores using strips of adhesive tape and loosen the spoiler drive.

Cleaning solution (isopropanol, commercially available)
Clean cloth

Cleaning spoiler drive
CAUTION: Risk of damage and noises as a result of greasing the spoiler drive guides.

Grease causes particles of dirt to stick to the guides for the spoiler drive, resulting in squeaking noises.

Do not grease the spoiler drive guides.
1. Extend the rear spoiler.
1.1. Switch on ignition.
1.2. Extend the rear spoiler manually as far as the top end position using the rocker switch in the passenger compartment.
1.3. Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.
2. Clean the spoiler drive.
