Concern:
Air bag warning light comes on. Fault code 30 - air bag warning light - signal "unplausible".

Work Procedure:
If this occurs, the air bag system should be checked as follows:

Step 1: 
Check warning lamp and replace if required.

Step 2: 
Check wire from control unit to instrument cluster or to diagnostic socket, respectively, for short to battery positive.

Step 3: 
Check instrument cluster.

If the fault is still present after all three steps have been carried out, the fault is caused by inductive interference of the ABS control unit causing the air
bag front sensor wiring to erroneously receive a fault signal.

In this case, the control unit must be replaced by a modified control unit. The modified control unit carries the same Porsche part number as the old one.
The modified control unit is identifiable by a number sequence starting at 155012 on 968 models or 156018 on 911 models. This number is located on
the bottom black strip of the unit identification label.

General Information:
The software of the modified air bag control units has been changed, including reducing the system function check time to 2.5 seconds from
approximately 5 seconds.
