Modified position of oil level sensor in crankcase

Incorrect display of oil level in display of on-board computer

Information:
Since September 8, 2004, engines have been produced with a oil sensor positioned lower in the crankcase. In order to prevent an incorrect display of the
oil level in the on-board computer display after replacing an engine, the engine number must be checked and the instrument cluster recoded if necessary.

Affected Engines:

Standard replacement, or high output (X51) engines produced as of September 8, 2004 from the following engine numbers:

Tools:

PIWIS Tester with test software, version 5.0/10/2004 (or higher).

Work Procedure:

Engine numbers of the old and replacement engine need to be checked and the instrument cluster recoded if necessary.

Read the engine number of the removed engine and the engine number of the replacement engine on the underside of the crankcase (Figure 1,
arrow) and make note of it.
