Air Bags: Notification of Deployment and Service Information
ATTENTION:
Service Manager / Service Technician
Models Affected:
911 Carrera from Model Year 1995-on
General Information:
Air bag supplementary restraint systems have been standard equipment on all Porsche models since model year 1990. The air bags, in conjunction with
the three point seat belts and integrated headrests, provide optimum safety for the front seat occupants.
In the event of an air bag deployment, please contact the Porsche Technical Support Department at (702) 348-3253 or (702) 348-3254 or your District
Service Manager as soon as possible.
In the event of an air bag deployment in a 1995 or newer 911 Carrera the following components must be replaced:
-
Passenger's air bag, driver's side air bag, and fastening hardware
-
Contact reel for driver's air bag
-
Passenger's side air bag cover
Note:
The new air bag control unit does not require replacement until the third time the control unit has been triggered. This is a new feature beginning with
911 Carrera model year 1995.
Extreme care must be taken when working on the air bag system. Wait at least 1 minute after switching off the ignition and disconnecting the battery
before working on the air bag system. When working with non-deployed air bags always store them in a safe place. Always place the air bag with the
expanding side facing up and nothing on top of it. Always consult all applicable literature before working on the air bag system.
In the event of a collision where the vehicle is considered a total loss and the air bags have not deployed, the air bags and control units should be
removed and shipped in approved containers to:
