Coding New PCM Control Module

Concern: 
Proper coding of the instrument cluster after a new PCM is installed

Information: 
As of model year 2001 (1), the software ("K-number"), which calculates total mileage and fuel consumption in the PCM, has been changed. The
software ("K-number") has also been changed in the instrument cluster to coincide with the PCM.

If a new PCM is installed in a model year 01 and later vehicle, the instrument cluster will have to be reprogrammed using the Porsche System Tester
(PST2). Failure to do so will result in the instrument cluster displaying a different total mileage and fuel consumption than the PCM.

Note:

PST2 software version 13.0 or higher is required to reprogram the instrument cluster.

Procedure:

Programming software ("K-number") in the instrument cluster.

1.

Connect the PST2 and switch on the ignition

2.

Select vehicle type "911 (996)" and start search with the >> key.

3.

Select "Instrument cluster" in the control modules menu and press the >> key.

4.

Select "Synchronize mileage" and press the >> key.

5.

After the function has been successfully performed, the message "Function completed successfully" appears, press the >> key.

6.

Return to the start menu and switch off the PST2.
