Air/Fuel Mixture: Adjustments

1985 - 86 MODELS
    Perform the following adjustments with all electrical equipment off. Perform all adjustments as quickly as possible to prevent heating up
exhaust ports which would affect emissions. 

1.

Allow engine to warm to operating temperature.

2.

Disconnect oxygen sensor wiring connector.

3.

Connect suitable CO tester to exhaust system test port. There are two exhaust system test ports in engine compartment in front of plenum.
Right side test port is for cylinders 1 through 4 and left side test port is for cylinders 5 through 8. These test ports are used mainly for
system testing.

CO should be .4 - .8% by volume. If CO level is not as specified, remove concealment plug from air volume sensor. Refer to ``Fuel Injection'' for
procedure.

5.

Insert tool 9230 into opening in air volume sensor and turn adjusting screw clockwise for richer mixture or counterclockwise for leaner mixture.

6.

Connect oxygen sensor wiring connector and remove CO testing equipment.

7.

Check idle speed and adjust as necessary. Refer to ``Curb Idle Speed, Adjust'' for procedure.
