Protective Strip at Body Side Panel/Door Posts

Concern:
Prevention of paint wear at body side panels near left and right door posts. (B-pillars)

Information:
As of July 15, 1997 production and VIN: WPOCA2 98 6 VS 62 5601, a protective strip was added in the area of the lower B-pillar on (both sides) to
prevent paint wear over time (See Figure 1). This condition is possible on Boxsters due to close tolerances.

It is therefore recommended that when in the workshop, these early production Boxsters (prior to the above VIN range) be updated with a clear
protective strip (approximately 7 x 93 mm), as shown in Figure 2.

Installation:

Use a cleaner such as isopropyl alcohol to clean the installation area shown in Figure 2. Wipe with a clean damp cloth.

If necessary, touch up the affected area, observing the touch up paint (drying time) instructions.

Install the protective strip as shown in Figure 2, and work out any air bubbles. The protective strip adhesive cure time is 24 hours.
