The sliding piece (left or right-item a, figure 23) for the guide arm (item b, figure 23) of the convertible top compartment lid is loose in the guide rail
(item c, figure 23). This can result in rattling noises when the vehicle is driven. This play can be checked by shaking on the guide arm (item b, figure 23)
with the convertible top compartment lid open. 

Note: 

High temperatures, such as those produced when the vehicle paint work is bake (dried), can reduce the spring force of the sliding piece.

Repair:

Replace the guide piece on the left and/or right hand side.

1.

Move the convertible top to the service position.

2.

Unclip the cover trim from the guide arm of the convertible top compartment lid.

3.

Remove the M6 collar nut (item d, figure 23) and pull the guide arm (item b figure 23) off the eccentric bolt (item e, figure 23).

4.

Unscrew the rear combination screw (item f, figure 23) on the guide rail.

5.

Pull the sliding piece out of the guide rail to the rear.

6.

Unclip the eccentric bolt from the old sliding piece and clip it into the new one.

7.

Insert the sliding piece into the guide rail. Fasten the guide with the combination screw.

8.

Push the guide arm onto the eccentric bolt and fasten it with the M6 collar nut.

9.

Close the convertible top and check the adjustment of the convertible top compartment lid. If necessary, adjust the lid for proper fit. See complaint
13.2. When finished, clip on the trim that attaches to the guide arm.

Note: 

The part number for the left or right side sliding piece is 986 561 577 01.

Complaint 13.2

Rattling from the rear area.

Cause:
The convertible top compartment lid is not resting properly on the front stops on the left or right hand side. The stops are damaged or set too low.
