Front Crankshaft Seal: Procedures

Removing

Preliminary work for crankshaft sealing ring - belt pulley side 
 

1. Move driver and passenger seats to the front-most position and fold over the backrests.
2. Disconnect ground strap for battery.
3. Place protective covers in the car to prevent damage and soiling.

4. Remove rear wall lining of rear wall cover.

5. Remove drive belt. Mark the running direction of the belt with a colored pen. Slacken the belt; to do so, turn tensioning roller (a/f 24) in a

clockwise direction and at the same time, remove the belt from the tensioning roller or the deflection roller.

6. Remove pulley.

Removing crankshaft sealing ring - belt pulley side  

1. Make a 3-mm hole at the front of the sealing ring using an angle drill. Grease the drill in order to bind the chips caused by drilling. Screw a sheet

metal screw with a washer (5 x 2) approximately 5 mm into the bore hole.
