Fitting timing chain
Caution: Never twist the crankshaft the direction of movement!
Proceed carefully while adjusting as otherwise the engine can become damaged!
Only turn the engine on the crankshaft and never on the camshaft as the timing chain can jump over!
When working on the engine, absolute cleanliness is essential! Even the smallest particles of dirt can block up oil bores!
Please observe general warning notes and working regulation!
Note:

The running direction of the timing chain must always be the same.

If the timing chain is to be reused, the running direction of the timing chain must be marked before it is removed!

Camshaft wheels and camshaft adjusters must be installed and it must be possible to turn them
1. Place timing chain loosely on all chain sprockets. Ensure that the timing chain is in the correct position on the guide rails.
2. Position guide rails and tensioning rails and install chain case lids. Do not remove chain tensioner until the next work step has been completed.
3. Place guide rails between the camshafts on the threaded pegs. To do this, let timing chain dangle between the camshafts.
4. Install chain tensioner with new sealing ring at 60 Nm (44 ft. lbs.).
5. Set timing of camshafts.
6. Tighten all camshaft wheels and camshaft adjusters again with pan-head screw M12. To do this, counter the hexagon (a/f 32) of the corresponding
wheel with a ring wrench and tighten pan-head screw M12 with socket insert wrench T60.
