Removing timing chain

Information: 
If the timing chain has to be removed or replaced, check the guide and tensioning rails as well as the chain pinions for wear and scoring and replace
them if necessary.

The rolling direction of the timing chain must always be the same.

If the timing chain is to be reused, the rolling direction of the timing chain must be marked before it is removed.

1. Loosen the fastening screws of the camshaft wheels and camshaft adjusters (1 or 2 turns). To do this, hold the a/f 32 hexagon of the camshaft

adjuster and camshaft timing gear against the corresponding camshaft with a ring wrench. Loosen the M12 cheese head bolt by 1 or 2 turns with
socket wrench insert T60.

2. Pull guide rails between the camshafts away from the threaded pegs. To do this, let timing chain dangle between the camshafts.

If the timing chain is to be reused, the rolling direction of the timing chain must be marked before it is removed.

3. Mark rolling direction of timing chain. Remove timing chain from all sprockets, pulling it forwards.
