Suspension - Clicking/Rumbling Noises

Active Chassis Control System PDCC

Concerns:

Operating and running noises (clicking and/or rumbling) from the valve blocks in the PDCC system.

Information:

Clicking noises from the right front wheel housing (A-pillar area) and/or left rear wheel housing (chassis sub frame area) and rumbling noises from
around the axles are caused by operating and running noises in the PDCC system.

The clicking noises can be heard when the side windows are open, when the roof is open or even when over taking other vehicles slowly. The rumbling
noises can occur particularly when driving slowly (< 15 km/h or 10 mph) on uneven road surfaces and when the steering wheel is turned (e.g,
maneuvering, pulling into or out of a parking space).

The clicking and rumbling noises are caused by shifting action in the valve blocks in the PDCC system. These noises are produced as a result of high
system dynamics (and the resultant system pressures) and quick or alternating valve shifts.

The modified PDCC control unit will help to minimize the rumbling noises specifically.

The clicking noises are characteristic of PDCC and cannot therefore be classed as complaints.

Date of Introduction:

As of end of July 2008, a modified PDCC control unit is installed in order to prevent rumbling noises.

Remedial action for rumbling noise:

In the event of a complaint, install the modified PDCC control unit, --> Workshop Manual' 430819 Removing and installing control unit for Porsche
Dynamic Chassis Control (PDCC)'.
