Wheel Hub: Service and Repair

1.

Remove hub cap, then loosen but do not remove drive axle nut.

2.

Install spacer Tav. 509.01 or equivalent between shock mounting on upper control arm and lower control arm shaft to unload suspension, raise and
support vehicle, and remove wheel.

3.

Remove brake pads, then the caliper mounting bolts, and secure caliper aside taking care not to stretch brake hose.

4.

Remove bolts securing rotor to hub, then the rotor.

5.

Remove drive axle nut, position suitable block behind hub, then remove hub by threading 2 wheel bolts through hub, 180° apart, and pressing
against block. Tighten bolts gradually and evenly to ensure hub is pressed off straight.

6.

Remove outer bearing from hub using suitable puller.

7.

Remove 6 torx bolts securing bearing retainer to steering knuckle, the bearing and inner race.

8.

Slide bearing over stub axle, seat bearing in knuckle and torque retaining bolts to 11 ft.lbs.

9.

Press bearing race onto hub using 1.575 inch diameter spacer.

10.

Pack bearings with suitable grease, then install hub over stub axle, driving hub into place until drive axle nut can be installed.

11.

Hold hub with suitable bar and torque drive axle nut to 185 ft.lbs., then reverse remaining procedure to complete installation.
