Shift Solenoid: Testing and Inspection

The following procedures can be performed using standard shop equipment. However, further testing of electronic control components
requires the use of diagnostic tester B.Vi.958 (early models), MS 1700 (late models) or a suitable equivalent.

1.

Disconnect solenoid electrical connector from computer, Fig. 3.

2.

Connect ohmmeter between terminals A and C and between terminals B and C on solenoid connector.

3.

If resistance is not 20-40 ohms, check wiring between computer and solenoids. If wiring is satisfactory, solenoids are defective.

4.

Connect ohmmeter between terminal C on solenoid connector and ground.

5.

If meter indicates continuity, check for short to ground in solenoid wiring. If wiring is satisfactory, solenoids are defective.
