For tilt column vehicles: Remove the three instrument panel-to-steering column attaching screws and the four steering column mounting nuts and
bolts and pull the shaft only far enough to disengage the u-joint (Fig. 12).

For all vehicles: Remove the accelerator pedal mounting bracket bolt from the bulkhead panel (Fig. 13). Leave the cable attached to the pedal and
move the assembly away from the heater core.

On 1983 and some 1984 automatic transmission vehicles it is also necessary to remove the air conditioning wide open throttle cut out switch. Drill
out the two attaching rivets, using a 13/64 drill bit. Disconnect the wiring clip and remove the switch and mounting bracket. Save for reinstallation
(Fig. 13).
