Brake Pad: Service and Repair
Disc brake pads must be changed in complete axle sets. Do not mix pads of different makes or grades.
1.
Drain approximately 2/3 of brake fluid from master cylinder reservoir. Do not drain fluid completely.
2.
Loosen wheel lug nuts, raise and support front of vehicle, and remove front wheels.
3.
Using suitable tool, depress caliper piston to bottom of caliper bore.
4.
Remove caliper mounting pins, then remove caliper.
5.
Place caliper out of way so that brake hose does not support weight of caliper.
6.
Hold anti-rattle clip against caliper anchor plate and remove outer pad.
7.
Remove inner pad and anti-rattle clip.
8.
Inspect caliper and repair if any signs of leakage are evident.
9.
Clean anchor plate to caliper contact surfaces, then lubricate with suitable lubricant.
10.
Install anti-rattle clip on trailing end of anchor plate with split end of clip facing rotor.
11.
Hold back on clip and install inner and outer brake pads.
12.
Reverse procedure to install, torquing caliper mounting pins to 25-27 ft.lbs.
