For 1983 - 1986 models with 1.4L Engine: Clamp both heater hoses near the bulkhead heater core attachments to prevent coolant loss from the
system (Fig. 4).
For 1985 - 1986 models with 1.7L engine and all 1987 models: Clamp the lower hose near the core as shown in Fig.4. Do not clamp the upper
hose near the core because this hose will be replaced. Instead clamp off both hoses on the other (forward) side of the tee (or oil cooler) that the
upper hose connects to.
CAUTION:
CLAMPING OF THE HEATER HOSES IS NECESSARY TO PREVENT EXCESSIVE LOSS OF COOLANT FROM THE SYSTEM DURING
HEATER CORE REPLACEMENT. EXCESSIVE LOSS OF COOLANT WILL MAKE IT DIFFICULT AND TIME CONSUMING TO BLEED
AIR FROM THE SYSTEM DURING REFILL. BLEEDING THE AIR FROM THE SYSTEM IS ESSENTIAL TO PREVENT ENGINE
DAMAGE.

Cut both heater hoses off at the end of the heater core nipples (Fig. 4).
