EMISSIONS RECALL --
1985-87 ALLIANCE AND ENCORE PASSENGER CARS SOLD IN CALIFORNIA

Dear Alliance or Encore Owner:

It has been determined that certain 1985, 1986, and 1987 model year Alliance or Encore passenger cars, with a 1.7 or 2.0 liter engine, may be in
violation of California Emissions Standards. For this reason, we are asking you to return your car -- identified by the Vehicle Identification Number on
the enclosed form -- to your dealer for a special service repair. This service will be provided free of charge.

The needed instructions have been sent to all California Jeep/Eagle dealers. The service will not impair your engine performance or fuel economy. Your
dealer is ready to serve you now. To obtain this service:

Contact your dealer as soon as possible to make an appointment for the free service.

Take the enclosed Owner Recall Notification Form with you at the time of your appointment and give it to your dealer. The form identifies
the vehicle and recall for which service is required.

The dealer will replace the catalytic converter. The service will take about one hour to complete. However, additional time may be required
depending on how dealer service appointments are scheduled and processed.

The State of California requires that every vehicle must pass an emission test every two years and before it is sold. Without the free service we are
providing, your vehicle may be more likely to fail this test and require that you make costly repairs.
