Note:
Some vehicles may not have a retaining ring, as the ring was used for assembly purposes only. If present, remove and discard the retaining ring (Fig.
11).

For standard and tilt column vehicles: Remove the left air conditioning duct by sliding it to the right to disengage it from the left side.

Remove the steering column intermediate shaft u-joint pinch bolt. Spread the joint for ease of removal and later reassembly.
10.
For standard column vehicles: Replace the steering wheel and nut onto the shaft to assist in pulling the shaft free from the u-joint. Pull the shaft
only far enough to disengage the u-joint. (Note: The ignition switch must be in the ON position to unlock the steering column or the shaft cannot
be removed.)
