Fluid Pump: Testing and Inspection
The following procedures can be performed using standard shop equipment. However, further testing of electronic control components
requires the use of diagnostic tester B.Vi.958 (early models), MS 1700 (late models) or a suitable equivalent.
Oil pressure check must be performed during a road test with transaxle at normal operating temperature. Prior to performing test, ensure engine is in
proper operating condition, and that vacuum capsule and linkages are properly adjusted.

Verify correct accelerator pedal travel, and adjust linkage as needed to ensure that wide open throttle is obtained with pedal fully depressed.
2.
Remove plug from pressure tap on side of transaxle and connect suitable pressure gauge.
3.
Secure gauge so that it can be read from driving position.
4.
Drive vehicle several miles to ensure that transaxle is at normal operating temperature.
5.
Place selector lever in 2nd hold position and accelerate vehicle at wide open throttle while applying brakes to stabilize speed.
6.
Read pressure gauge when road speed stabilizes at 50 mph (80 km/h).
7.
Pressure reading should be 64 psi (4.4 bars) for MB1 and MB3 transaxles, or 66.7 psi (4.6 bars) for MJ3 transaxles.
8.
If pressure is not as specified, test vacuum capsule as outlined.
9.
If vacuum capsule is satisfactory and oil pressure cannot be adjusted to specifications, check for defective oil pump, valve body or internal
leakage.
