HOOD PROTECTOR INSTALLATION

A plastic protector plate has been added to the underside of the hood on California L42-M42 models built after VIN 1AXXXXXXXX178832 with
an automatic transmission. The plate prevents the hood from being damaged (dimpled) by the throttle position potentiometer during rail shipment or
whenever excessive force is used to close the hood.

The protector plate may also be installed on California L42-M42 models with automatic transmission built prior to the indicated VIN during normal
maintenance or PDI operations.

PROTECTOR PLATE LOCATION

PROCEDURE

1.

Mark the protector plate location using the two tabs on the underside of the hood for reference (see illustration). Clean the plate location area
after marking the location.

NOTE:

On models without hood insulation, attach the protector plate directly to the hood. On models with hood insulation, attach the plate
directly to the insulation.

2.

Apply a thin coat of 3M Fast Tack Trim Adhesive 08031, or equivalent, to both the protector plate and plate location area on the hood or
hood insulation. Allow the adhesive to dry for about 60 seconds before attaching the protector plate to the hood or hood insulation.
