Electronic problems in cars with towbar

Cars affected

Saab 9-3 M03- equipped with towbar.

Background

Due to process problems there have been instances of paint on the pins of the towbar's control module. The car then believes that a trailer is connected
despite this not being the case, and this could lead to the following symptoms.

In the case of customer complaint, the following procedure must be carried out.

Symptom description

High frequency in direction indicators
Saab Park Assistance (SPA) does not work

Parts required

If the control module shall be replaced:

40-12 803 356 Control module, towbar (not US/CA)
12 803 356 Control module, towbar (US/CA)

Procedure

1. Check that the towbar's 7 or 13-pin connector, and any adapter, are correctly fitted, and that there is no corrosion. Rectify if necessary.

Check that the direction indicator and Saab Park Assistance (SPA) are working.

In the event that problems remain, proceed to step 2.

2. 4D/5D: Open the rear inspection hatch in the luggage compartment.

3. CV: Remove the luggage compartment side trim, see WIS - 8. Body - Interior equipment - Adjustment/Replacement - Luggage compartment side

trim, CV.

4. Replace the electronic unit with a new one.

5. CV: Fit the luggage compartment side trim, see WIS - 8. Body - Interior equipment - Adjustment/Replacement - Luggage compartment side trim,

CV.

6. 4D/5D: Close the inspection hatch.

7. Check that the direction indicator and Saab Park Assistance (SPA) are working.
