The rain sensor controls windscreen wiping.

The sensor detects whether or not the windscreen needs wiping.
The rain sensor transmits light that is reflected differently depending on how much water is on the windscreen. The sensor detects the intensity of the
reflected light and uses this to determine whether or not the wipers should be activated.
