Knee Shield: Description and Operation
Knee Shield
The knee shield on the driver's side consists of a steel section and is screwed to the steering wheel beam. Together with the lower part of the dashboard
the knee shield absorbs the force of an impact and reduces knee injuries and also prevents the driver from sliding under the dash.
In cars that have an airbag on the passenger side a knee shield is provided for the passenger as well. On the passenger side it consists of a transverse tube
and a smaller knee shield of steel section.
The knee shield is screwed to the support leg at the centre console and to the steering wheel beam. The transverse tube is screwed to the knee shield and
to a bracket on the inside of the door.
