Background

After the car has been standing in a cold environment for a time, the airbag module in the steering wheel cools down. This causes a cold draught around
the steering wheel, making the driver's hands and knees cold despite the cabin temperature being satisfactory. The airbag module has a large mass and
takes a long time to warm up.

For customers that are affected, a sealing strip can be fitted to the airbag module that will reduce the risk of cold draughts.

Parts required

(10) 51 70 774 Airbag sealing strip EPDM 

(CA: 30581411)

Procedure

Warning

Read the safety and handling directions for working on airbags in the WIS/Service Manual before starting work.

1.

Turn ignition OFF and remove the key.

2.

Remove the airbag module, two plugs and two screws.

3.

Lift out the module and unplug the connectors.
